Sitges is a small, but widely known littoral town located approximately 35 km to the south of Barcelona in the Costa de Garraf.  Modern Sitges, while still preserving important references to the Middle Ages and the look of the old farmers’ and fishermen’s town, has become internationally famous for hosting events such as the International Barcelona-Sitges Vintage Car Rally, the International Film Festival, the International Jazz Festival and their Summer Concerts Series.  Today, Sitges can be considered a dynamic cultural oasis.

Sitges has 17 beaches with pristine waters and fine sand, some of which have been awarded the blue flag eco-label.  Almost all the beaches are equipped with all kinds of service facilities.  There is also number of gay and nudist beaches available.

The city centre is also worth visiting, as it has beautiful religious buildings such as the churches of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla.  All around the town, there are innumerable restaurants to try the local cuisine —in the historic quarter, in the harbour and along the beaches.

Sitges' cultural calendar includes important events such as the International Vintage Car Rally, Catalonia International Film Festival and the celebration of Corpus Christi.

For over a century, Sitges has been celebrating nonstop — between the months of February and March, according to the liturgical calendar — Carnestoltes, or Carnival. The two most important moments of the Carnival are the Rua de la Disbauxa, or the Debauchery Parade, on Sunday night and the Rua de l'Extermini, or Extermination Parade, on Tuesday night.

The Barcelona - Sitges Vintage Car Rally is a concentration of privately owned vehicles made before 1900 and up to 1924. The competition winners are not just the fastest, but the ones with the most original automobiles and who also dress in most accordance with the times of the car they are participating with. This event usually takes place the first Sunday in March.

The firm commitment for quality infrastructures has converted Sitges also into a first-class destination in terms of tourism of congresses, conferences, seminars and company meetings in the Mediterranean area. It is also considered a gay tourist town - in July and August gay men and lesbians visit Sitges as "one of the most popular gay holiday spots in Europe".
